Phoenix: Maguire Academy of Irish Dance
Beginner Irish Series/Creative Movement: (ages 3-6) This class is an introduction to movement as well as Irish Dance and Irish Step fundamentals and technique. Dancers will learn how to warm up and stretch, perform basic traditional Irish steps, like hop 3s, side step, and leaps, and learn posture and bodily control. Additionally, dancers will explore body expression through movement, dance, and games. Dancers will also begin to learn soft shoe dances: reel, light jig, single jig, and slip jig. This class is offered as a monthly package and is not eligible for the drop in rate. (Find under "Courses" tab on Schedule Page)
Intermediate: Placement in this class is at teacher discretion. Dancers must know all 4 soft shoe dances and have begun learning hard shoe dances. Dancers will work on intermediate technique, such as trebles, rocks, and tricks and turns. Dancers will be able to perform all 7 traditional dances: reel, light jig, single jig, slip jig, treble jig, hornpipe, and St. Patrick's Day.
Advanced: Placement in this class is at teacher discretion. Dancers will have mastered traditional 7 dances and will begin to work on contemporary and advanced technique, tricks, turns, and routines.
Saturday Workshops: Workshop topics vary, as do dates. Look under the "Courses" tab on Schedule Page for exact dates and times. Typical Workshops include: Skills and Drills, Ceili, Performance Practices, Conditioning, and Guest Artist led workshops.
Phoenix Movement Labs
Donation Based Yoga (Vinyasa): Vinyasa means "breath-synchronized movement". Movements are smoothly flowing and almost dance-like, which explains why it is sometimes referred to as Vinyasa Flow or just Flow. A series of poses will move you through the power of inhaling and exhaling, core work, and flexibility. This class is donation based, so come when you can, pay what you can. All levels encouraged to join.
Pilates-Barre Conditioning: Combine the poise, grace, and flexibility of ballet barre with the strength, dynamic control, and toning of Pilates for a power packed class for movers of all types and experience. A yoga mat or towel is recommended.
Ballet: This class is great for increasing flexibility, strength, grace, and poise. Classes consist of classic barre work, center work, combinations, and contemporary variations.
Tabata: High-intensity Interval Training! Improve your strength, flexibility, lose weight, build muscle with this fast paced class. This class is a MUST ADD to your fitness routine!
Core with Cris: Core training helps improve posture, build strength, reduce lower back pain, and tighten up the waist-line. This hour long class will push your core to the extreme!
